Background: Born in the Carpathian mountains, the twins were abandoned in a state-run orphanage due to the Nicolae Ceauşescu regime's ban on abortion, then sold on the black market by institutions that couldn't afford them anymore after the Romanian revolution. Forced to be in kiddy snuff films, and made to finish off their victims as a form of amusement, they learned ways to kill that pleased the perverts so that they could survive.

In the end, they turned their backs on the blue sky, and entered into the shadows of darkness, believing that 'to kill or be killed' is just the way the world works. They believed that the more people they killed, the safer they would be. More lives taken would make them eternal.

Unknown to most people, "Hansel" and "Gretel" are actually two personalities alternately adopted by the two children, both of whom suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder, and they often switch identities whenever it suits them. In combat, "Hansel" wields a sharp, wicked-looking battle axe while "Gretel" uses a M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle that appears to be taller than she is. Both also carry additional sidearms.

While they were mentally deranged, Hansel and Gretel were also cunning, having used two other children as decoys to distract the "Hotel Moscow" ex-soldiers and using money to distract Eda. They were also not above using their innocent appearance to deceive their enemies.

As revenge for killing Balalaika's men, Hansel was shot from a distance and left to bleed to death in one of Roanapur's parks, while Gretel managed to escape and eventually board the Black Lagoon of her own volition. Due to Rock's kindness, she began to shed her psychotic personality and took a genuine liking to him. However, just as Gretel started to begin a normal life, she was gunned down by a South African hitman.

The exact genders of the twins was never formally stated in canon. Some fans believe they're both female, some believe they're hermaphrodites, and some believe they're male and female and just enjoy switching roles. To make things simple, we'll be making Hansel male and Gretel female, since there is official art to make that seem the likely case. However, since they are constantly switching identities, you'd never be able to tell the difference.
